{"id":4021,"date":"2021-11-11T15:58:23","date_gmt":"2021-11-11T15:58:23","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/sergionistico.com\/?p=4021"},"modified":"2024-08-28T12:17:15","modified_gmt":"2024-08-28T12:17:15","slug":"the-rhythm-of-beauty","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/sergionistico.com\/en\/the-rhythm-of-beauty\/","title":{"rendered":"The rhythm of beauty: architecture has its own music"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Architecture has its own music and its own rhythm.<\/strong><br \/>\nI had never realized this before.<br \/>\nUntil I came across a text that changed my way of understanding spaces.<\/p>\n<p>I usually keep books jealously because, once read, a book is part of you.<br \/>\nDirectly or indirectly, by reaction or adhesion, partially or totally, <strong>it enters your blood and your head<\/strong>.<br \/>\nAdding to the infinite layers of experience that form your <strong>conscience<\/strong> and your <strong>identity<\/strong>.<br \/>\nSomeday you will want to look through it and you will surely find new meanings.<\/p>\n<p>That is why I deeply regretted realizing that I had not written down the title and author of that book.<br \/>\nAt that time I lived in <strong>London<\/strong>, I found this book in my hands.<br \/>\nIt was from an architect friend and I started reading it.<br \/>\nI don&#8217;t even know what book it is but <strong>it changed my way of seeing structures<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>I had never before thought that <strong>architecture can be understood through rhythm<\/strong>.<br \/>\nThat aesthetics imitates the heartbeat.<br \/>\nThat buildings and spaces, that architecture, do indeed have their own music.<\/p>\n<p>Suddenly I began to imagine <strong>the high tones suggested by Gothic cathedrals<\/strong> and the low tones whispered by Romanesque monasteries.<br \/>\nI began to hear the regularity of the sound inspired by ancient Greek temples, <strong>the distances between columns that sound to the rhythm of our heart<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>A bad construction bothers us aesthetically as much as a bothersome noise.<\/strong><br \/>\nThat happens for the same reason: it lacks rhythm, melody or grace.<br \/>\nWe visit the great cities of art, we admire extraordinary natural landscapes and we appreciate harmony in houses, as in music.<br \/>\nEmpty spaces and full spaces, colors like notes: the person who designs spaces is, in his own way, a composer.<br \/>\nWe walk surrounded by beauty and we can feel the sensation of well-being that it provokes within us.<br \/>\n<strong>Beauty calls for beauty<\/strong>. Destroying beauty is a bit like destroying life.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Balance, elegance, harmony have their origin within us.<\/strong><br \/>\nIn the wonderful \u201cheterogeneous repetition\u201d of nature and its laws.<br \/>\n<strong>Through architecture and decoration, we project our interiority into the world.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Emmanuel Raffaele Maraziti<\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Architecture has its own music and its own rhythm.
